Samurai Anime 2019 – Surprisingly There are only Four

samurai anime 2019
As of the time writing this article, I only found 4 samurai anime in 2019. Last year(2018) was better since there are more than 10. Without any delays let us go through these anime shows.

Dororo (2019)

Date aired: January 7 to June 24, 2019
The most popular and the best samurai anime for 2019 would be Dororo. It is a story of a man named  Hyakkimaru who was deserted by his father who is actually a Samurai Lord. When this man was born, he has no limbs, eyes, nose and even skin, but amidst all this, he is alive. This happened because his father made a pact with demons to grant his desire for power.
And with the child’s condition, the heartless king decided to dispose of the child in the river. Good thing this man was saved and now he is on a journey to defeat the demons who caused him to lose his limbs and other parts of his body. And on this journey, he is accompanied by Dororo who is an orphan boy. They team up to survive and defeat the demons to regain the parts he lost making his life miserable.
One thing I liked most in Dororo is the characters and its deep story. And all of these were supported by great art. And since it is an anime based on a series already released many years ago, it’s good to see a show that showcases ancient Japan where Samurai stories are common.
If you are a fan of anime with an adventure theme coupled with a supernatural element, Dororo is something that you should not miss.

Kochouki: Wakaki Nobunaga

Date aired: July 8 to September 23, 2019
This anime show showcases the life of Oda Nobunaga in the personality of Kochouki. Oda is a known person in Japanese history and is regarded as one of the three unifiers of Japan. The anime will show how he lived as a teen and how he fought against his own brother Nobuyuki.
You will certainly like watching this anime since the animation is done well and the characters look really nice and well crafted. The story is intriguing as well making you want to watch the next episodes. For those who love watching anime that related to historical events, this is definitely a treat.

Mugen no Juunin: Immortal

Date aired: October 2019
Mugen no Juunin: Immortal or   Blade of the Immortal is a story of Rin and Manji. They are both set on a journey to find the peace they are looking for.  Manji is an immortal swordsman who grew tired of living, while Rin is a young girl longing for vengeance for her family who was slaughtered.
Manji is on a journey to kill evil men in order to regain his mortality. In this concept, it has similarity with Dororo.

If you are the type of anime fan who is into gore, then this anime will surely suit you. If gore is not your thing, don’t dare watch this. Another thing commendable is the fight scenes which are well animated. This is very important for samurai anime since what we look forward to are the fight scenes. These action scenes are definitely fun to watch considering the Manji is super BADASS when it comes to fights.

Bakumatsu: Crisis

Date aired: April 5 to June 21, 2019
Bakumatsu: Crisis is about the story of Takasugi and Katsura who are on a quest to save their nation. They both live in the Bakumatsu era where there exists a mysterious timepiece that has the power to manipulate time.
This timepiece is kept and used by the government. So in order for this not to fall into the wrong hands of a leader who is selfish, our main characters intend to destroy it.
Animation and sound effect is fair enough, but I really couldn’t consider it as something I could recommend. Maybe what lacks most in this anime is a good plot and story. Also, there are too many characters that somehow distracts you from liking a single one aside from the main characters.
